How to Use Advanced Custom Fields & Assets in Your Website


Advanced Custom Fields and Assets allow you to create custom content types beyond standard blog posts. This is useful for review sites, directories, portfolios, and any website with repeating content structures.


1. Understanding Custom Asset


In the builder, blog posts are actually activa that use dynamic fields. You can create your own custom assets with unique fields tailored to your needs.


Examples of Custom Assets

  • Movie Reviews (with fields for posters, release year, and ratings)
  • Real Estate Listings (with property images, price, and location)
  • Job Listings (with job title, company, and application link)


2. Creating a Custom Asset


  1. Open the CMS Sidebar.
  2. Klik op Custom > Create Custom Asset.
  3. Enter a Singular and Plural Name for your asset.
  • Voorbeeld: Movie Review (singular) and Movie Reviews (plural).
  1. De Asset Slug will be auto-generated based on the name.
  2. Select an Icon to represent this asset in the CMS.


3. Adding Custom Fields to an Asset


After creating an asset, you can define custom fields to store unique data.

  1. Klik Add Field > Image.
  2. Name it Movie Poster.
  3. Set it as Required if necessary


Adding a Text Field (Release Year)

  1. Klik Add Field > Text.
  2. Name it Release Year.
  3. Set a minimum and maximum length to ensure correct formatting.


Other Field Types Available

  • Rich Text – For long descriptions or summaries.
  • Email & Links – Useful for contact forms or external references.
  • Number Fields – Ideal for ratings, pricing, or numerical data.
  • Reference Fields – Used for categorizing content (e.g., linking movies to genres).
  • Multi-Reference Fields – Allows selecting multiple categories for one asset.


4. Creating Categories for Custom Assets


To categorize assets (e.g., movie genres):

  1. Ga naar Custom > Create Custom Asset.
  2. Name it Genre (e.g., Horror, Action, Drama).
  3. Klik Create and Continue.


5. Linking Assets to Categories Using References


  1. Open Movies > Configuration Settings.
  2. Select Add Field > Reference.
  3. Under Reference, choose Genre.
  4. Klik Save and Finish.

Now, when adding a new movie, you can assign it to a genre category.


6. Using Dynamic Fields in Templates


Once assets are created, they can be dynamically displayed using Dynamische elementen in your website layout.

  • Featured Image → Movie Poster

  • Text → Release Year & Summary
